Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

We've tried to keep this short and in plain English. The summary: we collect your email if you ask us to send you campaign updates, we don't track you, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Who we are

Oxford YIMBY is a local campaign group affiliated with the YIMBY Alliance. For privacy questions, email james@yimbyalliance.org. The data controller for this site is YIMBY Alliance.

What we collect

If you sign up to our mailing list, we collect:

  • The email address you give us.
  • The date and time of your signup, plus your IP address — recorded by our mailing list provider for fraud prevention.

We don't use any tracking cookies, analytics, or third-party trackers on this website. There are no advertising pixels and no behavioural profiling. Fonts and images are served from the same domain.

Why we collect it

We use your email address to send you occasional updates about Oxford YIMBY's campaigns — typically a few times a year, more often around significant local planning decisions. We do this on the legal basis of your consent, which you give by signing up. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

Your email is stored and processed by Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., based in the United States), which we use as our mailing-list service. Mailchimp is GDPR-compliant and the transfer of data to the US is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. You can read Mailchimp's privacy notice.

We don't sell, rent or share your data with anyone else. We won't pass it to political parties, advertisers, or third-party campaigns.

How long we keep it

We keep your email until you ask us to remove it. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the active list. If you'd like your data deleted entirely (rather than just unsubscribed), email us at the address above.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Correct it if it's wrong.
  • Delete it (the "right to be forgotten").
  • Object to or restrict our processing of it.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (the UK's data protection regulator) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any of these rights, just email james@yimbyalliance.org and we'll handle it. We don't ask for ID or proof — if you want out, you're out.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything important, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and let subscribers know in the next campaign email.
